Minutes

January 3, 2000

The meeting was brought to order at 7:35 p.m. by Council President Sherry Wellman. Pastor Rick opened with devotions.

Election of Officers

MOTION MADE BY ERNIE ZAKRAJSEK TO NOMINATE AS PRESIDENT FOR 2000, SHERRY WELLMAN. Seconded by Denise Kelly. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY DEN GRAEBER TO NOMINATE AS VICE-PRESIDENT FOR 2000, LARRY KRUTH. Seconded by Deb Stopper. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY JEAN FOLK TO NOMINATE AS RECORDING SECRETARY FOR 2000, DEB STOPPER. Seconded by Larry Kruth. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY DENISE KELLY TO NOMINATE AS TREASURER FOR 2000, PAT ANDERSON. Seconded by Jean Folk. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY BARB PAULINS TO NOMINATE AS FINANCIAL SECRETARY FOR 2000, JIM TEAHAN. Seconded by Den Graeber. MOTION CARRIED.

Being no other nominations, the slate of nominated officers as listed above became official officers for 2000.

THE COUNCIL APPOINTED AS TELLERS FOR 2000, NANCY ZAKRAJSEK AND GENOIA SMITH, AND AS ALTERNATE TELLERS FOR 2000, BEV BECKER AND MARGE GALVIN.

MOTION MADE BY CHRIS FRYSINGER TO ACCEPT THE SECRETARY'S REPORT FOR THE DECEMBER 6, 1999 COUNCIL MEETING AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Jean Folk. MOTION CARRIED.

Treasurer's Report -see written reports of November (final) and December (prelim) 1999

Reports were reviewed. Discussion followed. MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO ACCEPT THE TREASURER'S FINAL REPORT FOR NOVEMBER, 1999. Seconded by Den Graeber. MOTION CARRIED. A big thank you to Lynn Diffell for being our Treasurer in 1999.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Property Committee - no written report
Ernie gave update - sidewalk issue is "dead". Stairwell is now enclosed. Regarding the custodian getting a replacement, that is covered under our insurance. The fridge is still working. Question as to whether Russ Riggs is still going to be a Council Rep. Ernie will check at next Property meeting. No Council Action required.

Stewardship Committee - no written report
Working hard on cottage meetings - they will be held in February and will be Bible studies that center on giving. Training of presenters in January. No Council Action required.

Worship Committee - no written report
Nothing to report. No Council Action required.

Youth Committee - see written report of December 20, 1999
Kathy Weber will be treasurer. The Gathering was a success. Group went on a Nativity Outing - went to a Best Western and read Christmas Story. Need more volunteers for Breslin. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Management Committee - no written report
Regarding Grand Ledge High School safety plan - Fred was going to meet with the principal at the high school. Haven't heard back as yet. No Council Action required.

Outreach Committee - no written report
Mary Gehlhaar is working on new member packets and needs to know each committee chair to contact regarding this. No Council Action required.

Parish Education Committee - see written report of December 20, 1999
A change has been made to the Valentine Dance - it will now be an adult bring a "favorite" child dance. They are working on promotion. No Council Action required.

Women of the E.L.C.A - no written report
Elections next Sunday.

Pastor's Report - see written report for December
Thank you to all that did Advent and Christmas - everything was done very well and many people were touched. Pastor will be working with Mary Gehlhaar regarding inactive members as of l999.
MOTION MADE BY ERNIE ZAKRAJSEK TO ACCEPT PASTOR'S REQUEST FOR VACATION THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 20TH, WITH PASTOR PAUL PRETZLAFF LEADING SERVICES. Seconded by Larry Kruth. MOTION CARRIED. Pastor talked about the LifeKeys Workshop January 21-22. Would like group to go.

CORRESPONDENCE

Thank you from Karen Eichelberger for helping send her to the seminar for Parish Nursing and for the matching grant monies.

Request from Boy Scouts for a car wash on Saturday June 3rd, 10th or May 27th. Wayne Christiansen will talk to the troop regarding dates before we approve one.

Old Business

(On Agenda - Grand Ledge High School Safety Plan - taken care of under Management Committee's report.)

New Business

Council Retreat and February Council Meeting will be January 29th from 9:00 a.m. to around 3:00ish p.m. at the Methodist Church.

Annual Reports - Section 9, page 24, of the Bylaws states that each committee must submit reports to Management Committee annually. Must be in to the church secretary this year by January 16th.

Organizational items were discussed - Church Calendar, Communion Assistants, Council & Offcers Roster, Constitution and Bylaws, 2000, Church Budget, Mail Boxes/Church Keys, Offce Work Requests, Request for Payment Forms.

Council Representatives and Officers and Women of the E.L.C.A. Offcers will be installed on Sunday, January 23rd at the 10:30 service. Pics will be taken!

The meeting ended at 9:00 p.m. Sherry closed with devotions.
