January 27, 2001 (February Meeting)

Council President Den Graeber brought the meeting to order at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Kelly White reported on the meeting she attended regarding a Teen Center in the Grand Ledge Community. The coordinators are asking to use the 501 S Clinton.  A leader from the Boys and Girls Club in Lansing would work with us. MOTION MADE BY FRED GEHLHAAR TO ALLOW THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB 1N LANSING TO ADDRESS THE COUNCIL REGARDING USING THE 501 S CLINTON BUILDING AT THE MARCH 5TH MEETING.  Seconded by Fred Koos.  Discussion followed.  MOTION CARRIED.

Kelly also proposed that she be in charge of our church logo and its usage. Discussion followed. She will bring a proposal back to Council at a future date.

MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO APPROVE GOOD SAMARITAN FUND REPRESENTATIVES FOR 2001 AS BEING BILL GIBBONS, DENISE LUND, RICHARD WELLMAN AND MARLAINE TEAHAN. Seconded by Larry Kruth. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO APPROVE THE AUDIT COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR 2001 AS GARY LASS, SHERRIE BRYANT AND MATT CERMAK. Seconded by Barb Paulins. MOTION CARRIED.

 

SECRETARY'S REPORT - See minutes from January 8, 2001 
MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ACCEPT THE MENUTES OF THE JANUARY 8, 2001 COUNCIL MEETING AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Denise Kelly. MOTION CARRIED.

TREASURER'S REPORT - no written report 
Fred has received everything from Pat. All bills have been paid. Fred will be picking up items in his mailbox on Sundays and Tuesday mornings. He will have reports for the next Council meeting.

Youth Committee - see written report from January 2001
MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO ACCEPT KATHY WEBER, MIKE PITCHFORD, STEVE COLBY, RICH HEUERMAN AS MEMBERS OF YOUTH COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Larry Kruth. Discussion followed.  MOTION CARRIED.
An update on Theresa Vicary's condition was given.

Worship Committee - see written report from January 9, 2001
MOTION MADE BY DENISE TO ACCEPT JIM ESPIE, BARB PAULINS, LISA BAPTISTA, JEANIE BOERGER-DIXON AS MEMBERS OF WORSHIP COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Amy Reed. MOTION CARRIED. 
Worship wants to start a hand bell choir. Will look at ways of fundraising. Contemporary and/or 3rd service is being pursued. Worship is visiting other services to gather ideas.

Stewardship Committee - see written report from January 2001
MOTION MADE BY MELISSA GOSCHKA TO ACCEPT HOLLY PLUNKETT, RICHARD WELLMAN, CARL MALKEWITZ, GREGG VICARY, JIM TEAHAN AS MEMBERS OF STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Fred Gehlhaar. MOTION CARRIED.
Question on how money is distributed off of envelopes regarding benevolence. The formula was explained.  Need to consider where the Lenten offerings will go.  Discussed mortgage reductions.

Property Committee - no written report for January
MOTION MADE BY ERNIE ZAKRAJSEK TO ACCEPT KEITH LANDRY, MARGO
HOLLAND, MIKE JUSSILA, MARK MORRALL, RUSS RIGGS, TONY HOLLAND AS MEMBERS OF PROPERTY COMMITTEE FOR 2001 AND CARL SCHULTZ AND ERNIE NOSTRANT AS MEMBERS AT LARGE. Seconded by Wayne Christiansen. MOTION CARRIED.
The bathroom fans have been replaced.  One furnace was out, and that was repaired. (Cost covered by insurance.)  Building had state inspection- wood and paper products need to be moved farther from the furnace.  Asked that everyone clean up after using the church/basement for activities.
Other miscellaneous items were reviewed.

Parish Education Committee - see written report from January 15, 2001
MOTION MADE BY AMY REED TO ACCEPT SUE SCHNARR, LYN DANES, SUE REASONER, DENISE LUND, MITZIE WARD AS MEMBERS OF PARISH EDUCATION COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Melissa Goschka. MOTION CARRIED. 
Amy reviewed their report.

Outreach Committee - see written report from January 10, 2001
MOTION MADE BY LARRY KURTH TO ACCEPT ORV ERICKSON, LYNNE ERICKSON, MARLAINE TEAHAN, MARY GEHLHAAR AS MEMBERS OF OUTREACH COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Barb Paulins. MOTION CARRIED.
The pictorial directories will be out soon. There had been a problem in the roster area of the directory.  
The t-shirts are done.  
Outreach (and youth?) will be sponsoring the Easter brunch this year.

Management Committee - see written report from January 17, 2001 
MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO ACCEPT BOB KENWORTHY, FRED ROUSH AS MEMBERS OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Fred Koos. MOTION CARRIED. 
An agreement has been worked out with Boy Scout Troop #901. There is no problem with our insurance. Immanuel is the official sponsor of the troop as of January 19th.

Health Ministries Committee - see written report from December 27, 2000 
MOTION MADE BY DONNA GIBBONS TO ACCEPT SHARI BURG, KAREN EICHELBERGER, PASTOR FRED ALTHOFF, WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN, DOROTHY FOLTYN, PAM GIGNAC AS MEMBERS OF HEALTH MINISTRIES COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Fred Koos. MOTION CARRIED. 
Attention was called to Health Ministries' goals for 2001, which can be found in their report - #12.

Senior Pastor's Report - no written report. 
There are eight people in the new member class. MOTION MADE BY FRED GEHLHAAR TO REMOVE TO INACTIVE STATUS, HAVING FOLLOWED ALL OF THE CRITERIA OF THE CHURCH'S BY-LAWS: BARBARA BROCK, JIM GLOMSKI, CHRIS GLOMSKI, JUSTIN GLOMSKI, STACIE GLOMSKI, BRAD JARVIS, EMILY JARVIS, KIM MULVENNA, MARK MULVENNA, MITCHELL MULVENNA, ASHLEY MURRAY, DON MURRAY, JOSEPH MURRAY, SUZANNE MURRAY, JESSE PASKI, MICHEAL PASKI, VICKI PASKI, JOEY PEIFFER, KIM PEIFFER, JAN REDMAN, CHAD SATTLER, SHARON SATTLER, TIM SATTLER, GARY SHITFORD, INDIANA WHITFORD, DIAN WHITFORD. Seconded by Denise Kelly. MOTION CARRIED. 
Pastor discussed a preliminary values list, which he passed out, necessary for us to accomplish the mission of our congregation. The Council and staff should be setting the examples. This will be discussed more at another time.

Associate Pastor's Report - see report of January 2001 
Pastor is working on a 3rd worship service and ways to draw in more youth. Starting a Woman's Bible group.

Memorial Committee - no written report 
MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO ACCEPT BEV BECKER, EILEEN LACOMB, DOROTHY FOLTYN, MARGE GALVIN, BARB ROUSH AS MEMBERS OF MEMORIAL COMMITTEE FOR 2001. Seconded by Fred Koos. MOTION CARRIED.

Women of the E.L.C.A. - no written report 
Having a tea tomorrow afternoon.

 

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business to be brought up at this time.

 

CORRESPONDENCE/NEW BUSINESS

Request to use church for school's eye and hearing tests. MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ALLOW THE GRAND LEDGE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO USE THE BUILDING ON MAY 7th -- 11th FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 4 P.M. FOR THEIR EYE AND HEARING TESTS. Seconded by Fred Gehlhaar. MOTION CARRIED.

Request from Boy Scout Troop 645 to use the parking lot on June 2nd for a car wash. MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO ALLOW BOY SCOUT TROOP 645 TO USE THE PARKING LOT ON JUNE 2nd FOR THEIR CARWASH. Seconded by Fred Koos. MOTION CARRIED.

Request from Wayne Christiansen to use the church basement for an open house on June 2nd. MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ALLOW WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO USE THE CHURCH BASEMENT FOR AN OPEN HOUSE ON JUNE 2nd. Seconded by Denise Kelly. MOTION CARRIED.

Request to use church for a craft sale to benefit world hunger on March 24th. MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ALLOW THE CHURCH TO BE USED FOR A CRAFT SALE TO BENEFIT WORLD HUNGER ON MARCH 24th. Seconded by Melissa Goschka. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO ESTABLISH A FACILITY USE TASK FORCE, CONSISTILNG OF APPROXIMATELY FIVE MEMBERS, WITH REPORT TO BE PRESENTED AT THE COUNCIL MEETING IN MAY. Seconded by Denise Kelly. Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED. Task force is to provide feasible solutions to nursery, Sunday school and youth space, as well as health ministries. Den Graeber will coordinate.

 

Council member telephone lists will be passed out at the next meeting. Committees should review the church calendar and bring and changes/corrections to the next meeting.
