The
meeting was brought to order at 7:35 p.m. by Council President Den
Graeber. Health Ministries opened with devotions.
Den
introduced Mike Dean from the Lansing area Boys' and Girls' Club.
Kelly White updated the Council on the purpose of Mike's visit. Mr.
Dean explained how a teen center could be started in Grand Ledge on a
non-profit basis. This would be an "extension unit". A
preliminary place is needed to start, then they would look at finding
or building a different facility.
SECRETARY'S
REPORT - no minutes
Minutes from the January 27th (February) Council meeting will need to
be reviewed at the Council meeting in April.
TREASURER'S
REPORT - see reports for January and February, 2001
Fred reviewed both reports. February was used to catch up, as January
was a transition month. Discussion followed. MOTION MADE BY FRED
GEHLHAAR TO ACCEPT THE JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2001 TREASURER'S REPORTS.
Seconded by Melissa Goschka. MOTION CARRIED.
REPORTS
Women
of the E.L.C.A. - no written report
Mary Gehlhaar was present to explain some new things regarding the
church kitchen. Because our kitchen is a licensed kitchen, we need to
abide by the "Michigan Food Law", which has just been
revised. A kitchen Policy Manual will be written. This will also be
incorporated into the church's Policy Manual. Committees and
organizations, along with individuals, need to contact the Kitchen
Committee when having functions that use the kitchen. Also, the church
secretary needs to be contacted.
Youth
Committee - see written report from February 12, 2001
Wayne reviewed their report. Committee is working on a new release
form. There were 8 youth and 4 adults that participated in the 30-hour
famine. The youth were commended on their participation with
advertising during announcements. Remainder of report as written.
Worship
Committee - see written report from February 6, 2001
Report as written. The Lenten Soup Supper starting. Videos will be
shown during the Lenten services, and repeated again during adult
Sunday school.
Stewardship
Committee - no written report
Draft of a letter to the congregation regarding reducing the mortgage
was passed out and discussed. A new draft with a couple changes will
be run past Management for their approval. Help is needed from the
Council to help deliver offering envelopes that are left.
Property
Committee - see written report from February 17, 2001
Church had a safety inspection regarding Head Start. Were written up
because of combustibles in furnace rooms. This is Head Start's
criteria, not the fire marshal's or the insurance code. Discussion
followed. Consensus of the Council that we are fine, and will not do
more that we are required to do for our insurance codes. Question
regarding the peeling ceiling - this will be handled when the interior
of the church is painted.
Parish
Education Committee - see written report from February 26, 2001
Amy Reed resigned from Parish Ed Committee, but will remain on Council
for 2001. Next meeting will be in April.
Outreach
Committee - no written report
The shirts and directories are in. Committee is starting to view
videos on hospitality and greeting - looking for ideas to implement.
Management
Committee - see written report from February 21, 2001
Received Judgment against former tenant on the 26th of February. They
are officially evicted and have money to pay us. All locks on the 501
building have been keyed to the "A" key. Discussion
followed.
Health
Ministries Committee - see written report from February 21, 2001
The Health Fair will be held in fall - probably September. The I.V.
Team had their first meeting on Sunday. The three initial team members
are Kitty, Karen and Barb Roush. Pastor Rick gave a presentation to
the 10 plus people that showed an interest. They will have another
group form later on. This team will have CYVA training on March 11th.
Associate
Pastor's Report - see report of February 2001
Going to Georgia mid-March for a family based ministries seminar. Also
taking a few extra days for vacation.
Senior

BUSINESS
Regarding space facilities - question on how to coordinate with task
force. Discussion followed.
NEW
BUSINESS
LORMM will have Day Camp in Grand Ledge July 1st- 6th. Jenn Stopper is
coordinating again this year.
Regarding the Teen Center - Facilities Task Force needs to get that
committee over there to look at the building. MOTION MADE BY FRED
GEHLHAAR TO TABLE A DECISION ON THE TEEN CENTER PENDING THE ADVICE OF
THE FACILITY USE TASK FORCE. Seconded by Wayne Christiansen. MOTION
CARRIED.
The
church calendar was reviewed.
Spring Cleanup will be April 21st.
