IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH

SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

Minutes

April 29, 2001

The meeting was brought to order after the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service, at 11:40 a.m. by Council President Den Graeber.

Den told of the purpose of the meeting which was to present the findings and recommendations of the Facility Use Task Force which were approved by Council and to vote on same.

Den Martinich gave a fantastic Powerpoint presentation of the proposal from the Facility Use Task Force.  The meeting was then opened to questions, answers and discussion.

The next part of the presentation regarded the financing of the project.  It was noted that 74% of all members with assigned envelopes in the year 2000 gave $200 or less for the entire year.  This number does include students and seniors on fixed incomes and was not intended to minimize their gifts, but it was intended to show that only 24% of Immanuel's members are giving more than $200 annually.  Discussion followed regarding the financing.

The ballots were collected and tallied.

Re: Approving the findings and proposal of the Facility Use Task Force,
60 -- Yes; 9 -- No.  Proposal passed.

Re: Approving adding to the present mortgage to fund the project,
56 -- Yes; 11 -- No.  Proposal passed.

MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ADJOURN.  Seconded by Ernst Floeter.

Respectfully submitted,

Deb Stopper
Recording Secretary

Some of the ballots included comments that should be noted for the records.  They are:

"Rent 501.  Re-figure basement.  $70,000 is too much for a temporary 'band-aid.'"

"Why not??  Feel the pastor and secretary should be located in church, use the rooms in the vacant house for classrooms. More wall space in 501 house for library -- table in center of room also used for classes."

"As this building was to be paying for itself (as we were told) -- I'm not interested in putting a lot of money into this.  Keep the pastor and secretary in the church office -- if you redo the building, use it for Sunday School classes?  And why does Parish Nurse need an office -- that's a volunteer job!!"

"Should be done with/service so as not to miss anyone"

"You did a good job, but let's get our mortgage down before we take (make) a move -- we can't even meet our budget now."

"I prefer that we raise 25 - 50% of the project funds.  Borrow only the 50-75% remaining.  This would indicate strong financial commitment.  Not just an easy fix and let other (future) pay for it."

"We need to look at creative ways to raise the funds to support these necessary changes."
