The meeting was brought to order at 7:40 p.m. by Council President Den Graeber. Outreach opened with devotions.

Den introduced Jeannie Boerger-Dixon, who has requested to paint a mural on the nursery wall (basement), of Noah's Ark. She has asked committees to pay for the paint. Council gave the go ahead.

Special Congregational Meeting April 29, 2001

MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 2, 2001 COUNCIL MEETING AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Bob Eichelberger. MOTION CARRIED.

Error made in April 2, 2001 minutes - Motion under Secretary's Report - Motion should read "MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 27, 2001 COUNCIL MEETING AS WRITTEN", not Fred Gehlhaar. MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 9, 2001 MINUTES AS CORRECTED. Seconded by Melissa Goschka. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 23, 2001 COUNCIL MINUTES AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Bob Eichelberger.  MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MINUTES AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Melissa Goschka. MOTION CARRIED. Discussion followed.

Treasurer's Report - see final report for April 2001

Question on Day Camp - income not theirs - needs to be for Elementary Camp - new line item. Also, discussion on rental property being different from the mortgage. MOTION MADE BY BARB PAULINS TO ACCEPT THE FINAL TREASURER'S REPORT FOR APRIL, 2001. Seconded by Bob Eichelberger. MOTION CARRIED.

REPORTS

Stewardship Committee - see written reports of March 20 and April 17, 2001

Cottage meetings will be starting. Thank you for work being done on payment reduction program - KUDOS! Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Property Committee - see written reports of March 31 and April 21, 2001

Discussion on the leak in the church - it was fixed - some roof shingles were off. Discussion on the sidewalk - we have a volunteer that will do this. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Parish Education Committee - see written report of April 16, 2001

Last day of Sunday School is May 20th. VBS will be July 30th through August 3rd - sign up sheets are available for helpers. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Outreach Committee - see written report of April 10, 2001

Would like to have church open during the Island Art Fair - display art (not for sale) from 9:30 to 5 :00. MOTION MADE BY BARB PAULINS TO HAVE THE CHURCH OPEN DURING THE ISLAND ART FAIR, FROM 9:30 TO 5:00. Seconded by Chris Frysinger. MOTION CARRIED.

Health Ministries Committee - see written report of April 18, 2001

Going to have Health Fair sometime in September. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Youth Committee - no written report

Steve Colby sent a letter of resignation to Youth Committee. Have a volunteer to take over. Graduation Sunday is June 3rd. Working on ways to get more activities for youth. Comment that Youth Service was great. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Worship Committee - see written report of May 1,2001

Suggested tabling the 3rd worship service until dust has settled from the renovation.

Guest Bell Choir will be at July 22nd Worship Service. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Associate Pastor's Report - see calendar for April

Attended a peer ministry training session in Midland.

Senior Pastor's Report - see calendars for March and April

Baptized two people - Bill and Vera Ford - at their home. They are non-members, and Bill has terminal cancer. Pastor Rick went to give them spiritual support and found they had never been baptized.

Summer vacation schedule will be July 9th through July 23rd and August 18th through August 25th.

Women of the E.L.C.A. - no written report

Haven't met. Nothing since Mother Daughter Banquet (which was terrific - and the men served.)

CORRESPONDENCE

Letter from Pastor Paul giving his resignation as Visitation Pastor. MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO ACCEPT THE RESIGNATION OF PASTOR PAUL, WITH REGRETS, AS VISITATION PASTOR. Seconded by Ernie Zakrajsek. MOTION CARRIED. Thank you note to be sent.

Letter from Cheryl Pitchford asking to borrow the tents for a picnic in June for Meals on Wheels. Discussion followed. This item needs a policy. MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO DENY THE REQUEST TO BORROW OUR TENTS. Seconded by Ernie Zakrajsek. MOTION CARRIED.

OLD BUSINESS

MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO DESTROY THE BALLOTS FROM THE SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING. Seconded by Barb Paulins. MOTION CARRIED.

NEW BUSINESS

MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO SET UP A COORDINATION TEAM FOR THE REMODELING WHICH WAS APPROVED BY THE CONGREGATION, CONSISTING OF DEN MARTINICH, ALAN GOSCHKA, ONE OTHER MEMBER YET TO BE FOUND, AND LARRY KRUTH AS EX-OFFICIO MEMBER. Seconded by Wayne Christiansen. MOTION CARRIED. Discussion followed.

An e-mail was received concerning Head Start, and whether or not we should let them return in Fall of 2001. Discussion followed. Management will research and bring follow-up back to Council.

Last month a letter was received from the Grand Ledge High School regarding the emergency plan and a meeting that was scheduled. Meeting ended up being rescheduled, and they would get back to us.

A Council Member that has not attended any meetings -Theresa Vicary - will be contacted by Youth Committee, to see if she wishes to continue on Council.

Brian Christiansen has volunteered to make a 25' x 8' oak bookcase for the new library, as a project for requirements for an Eagle Scout badge. Sherry Wellman has approved of this project. MOTION MADE BY MELISSA GOSCHKA TO APPROVE THE EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT OF BRIAN CHRISTIANSEN TO MAKE A BOOK SHELF FOR THE IMMANUEL LIBRARY. Seconded by Bob Eichelberger. MOTION CARRIED.

The annual church calendar was reviewed.

MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO ADJOURN. Seconded by Fred Koos.

The meeting ended at 9:05 p.m. and closed with the Lord's Prayer.
