COUNCIL MEETING

Minutes

June 4, 2001

 

Present: Den Graeber, Ernie Zakrajsek, Fred Koos, Wayne Christiansen, Chris Frysinger, Pastor Rick, Melissa Goschka, Amy Reed, Donna Gibbons, Jane Goebel, Denise Kelly, Fred Gehlhaar, Deb Stopper

Not Present: Bob Eichelberger, Barb Paulins, Pastor Cindy, Theresa Vicary, Larry Kruth

The meeting was brought to order by Council President Den Graeber. Property opened with devotions.

Secretary's Report - no written report

May 7, 2001 minutes will be available for approval at the July 2, 2001 Council Meeting.

Treasurer's Report - see final report for May 2001 and Budget - year to date

Fred reviewed both reports, and will check on questions. MOTION MADE BY FRED GEHLHAAR TO APPROVE THE TREASURER'S FINAL REPORT FOR MAY, 2001. Seconded by Wayne Christiansen. MOTION APPROVED.

Den introduced Mary Willems, who is on the Teen Center Committee. They are requesting the use of the 501 building as an address to get the Teen Center in Grand Ledge started. MOTION MADE BY FRED GEHLHAAR TO APPROVE THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB TO USE THE 501 S CLINTON ADDRESS, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, AND THE USE OF THE BUILDING UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION, IF NEEDED, IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO START A TEEN CENTER IN GRAND LEDGE. Discussion followed.  MOTION CARRIED WITH ONE OPPOSED.

REPORTS

Property Committee - see written report of May 19,2001

Question on where water problem is located. It is in the nursery.  No new part time custodian as yet. Letter from Grand Ledge City regarding a crack in the sidewalk at the 501 location. Property will handle. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Parish Education Committee - see written report of May 21, 2001

Report as written. No Council Action required.

Outreach Committee - see written report of May 9, 2001

Looking for items to display at the Art Fair on August 4th. Church will be open during Island Art Fair. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Management Committee - see written report of May 14, 2001

MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO APPROVE THE FUNERAL DINNER POLICY AS PRESENTED. Seconded by Fred Gehlhaar. MOTION CARRIED. MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO ACCEPT THE "LONG TERM RELEASE FORM", PRESENTED BY YOUTH COMMITTEE, AS DISCUSSED, WITH NAMES BEING REVISED ANNUALLY AS NEEDED. Seconded by Wayne Christiansen Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED.

MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO ACCEPT THE GUIDELINES FOR COMPENSATION OF ORGANISTS, WHICH WILL INCREASE THE TOTAL AMOUNT USED IN 2000. Seconded by Denise Kelly. Discussion ensued concerning the budget.

MOTION MADE BY FRED KOOS TO APPROVE FUNDING FOR DENISE LUND TO TAKE A COURSE IN AUGUST THAT DEALS WITH FINANCIAL COMPUTER PROGRAMS, ON AUGUST 8th AND 9th AT THE HOLIDAY INN SOUTH. Seconded by Deb Stopper. MOTION CARRIED.

Health Ministries - no written report.  Took a month off

Youth Committee - no written report

Rich Heuerman is new chairperson. They are looking at events for fall. No Council Action required.

Worship Committee - no written report

Looking at a Family Activity Night, where different groups meet at the same time. No Council Action required.

Stewardship Committee - no written report

Meeting was cancelled. Are looking at doing an endowment fund. No Council Action required.

Senior Pastor's Report - see calendar for May

Pastor reviewed his report. There will be no change in the catechism program for 2001- 2002. Pastor is going to look into attending a training program for senior pastors at Beeson Institute in Kentucky. The National Changing Church Conference will be in Lansing in January 2002. We need a sizable attendance from our congregation.

Pastor is looking to start a program to present ways to bring the themes of our faith and church-life into the daily lives of our homes and families.

Associate Pastor's Report - see calendar for May. Pastor Cindy was not at meeting due to illness.

Memorial -no written report

Fred Koos gave financial report of Memorial's funds.

Women of the E.L.C.A. - no written report

Haven't met since Mother Daughter Banquet.

CORRESPONDENCE

Letter from Eaton Federal saying our loan application has been approved, at 7-3/4%.

Den Martinich has been tearing down walls at the 501 building. He will recruit help as soon as the loan has been signed and we have confirmed items with the contractor.

Thank you from the Health Department for being able to use the building for their recent health screening.

NEW BUSINESS

130th Anniversary of Immanuel will be celebrated this year.

 

The annual church calendar was reviewed.

MOTION MADE BY WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN TO ADJOURN. Seconded by Fred Gehlhaar .
