COUNCIL MEETING

Minutes

June 7, 1999

Present: Margo Holland, Carl Malkewitz, Den Graeber, Jean Folk, Nikkol Allen, Sherry Wellman, Larry Kruth, Lynn Diffell, Lyn Danes, Russ Riggs, Jan Martinich, Deb Stopper

Not Present: Pastor Rick, Chris Frysinger, Holly Plunkett, Matt Clay

Guests: Pastor Paul, Denise Lund, Joy Powis, Mrs. Miriam Bunge

The meeting was brought to order at 7:35 PM by Council President Sherry Wellman. Guest Miriam Bunge offered opening devotions and then gave a special presentation on "Hands-on Evangelism Discernment" offered by the synod, to offer encouragement and resources from our evangelism ministry.

Secretary's Report - see written report of May 3, 1999

MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO ACCEPT THE SECRETARY'S REPORT FOR MAY 3, 1999 AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Nikkol Allen. MOTION CARRIED.

Treasurer's Report - see preliminary report for May, 1999

Denise explained and reviewed the report. As of the end of May, we are $4,388 in the red. Discussion followed. MOTION MADE BY DEN GRAEBER TO ACCEPT THE PRELIMINARY REPORT OF THE TREASURER FOR MAY, 1999. Seconded by Jan Martinich. MOTION CARRIED.

Management Committee to review line item for Weddings.

REPORTS

Management Committee - no written report

MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO IMPLEMENT SUMMER OFFICE HOURS - OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAYS. Seconded by Jean Folk. Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED.

Question raised on how Policy manual is progressing. Pat Anderson is working on that.

Property Committee - see written report of May 1, 1999

The statue has been mounted, the cross still needs to be moved. Cleanup day was successful. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Old Business

The Y2K report was reviewed and will be presented on Sunday, June 13th. Concerns on approach were discussed. Pastor Rick will address the spiritual aspect.

Stewardship Committee - no written report

Report was given on Growing The Gift. No Council Action required.

Worship Committee - see written report of May 4, 1999

Report as written. No Council Action required.

Youth Committee - see written report of May 10, 1999

Report as written. No Council Action required.

Mention was made that the phone system was "doing strange things". Denise will help Kendall with this problem.

Memorial Committee - see written report of April 1, 1999

Report as written. No Council Action required.

Outreach Committee - see written report of May 12, 1999

Report as written. No Council Action required.

Parish Education Committee - see written report of May 17, 1999

Had end of the year brunch for students and teachers. Planning Vacation Bible School. Theme is March With Jesus Into The Millennium Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required.

Women of the E. L. C. A. - no written report

Pastor's Report - no written report

Pastor was not present.

Correspondence

Carmen Farris has requested the use of the Fellowship Hall for a bridal shower on July 31st. (Calendar clear after 10:30 am) MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO ALLOW CARMEN FARRIS THE USE OF FELLOWSHIP HALL ON SATURDAY, JULY 31, 1999, AFTER 10:30 AM, FOR A BRIDAL SHOWER. Seconded by Jan Martinich. MOTION CARRIED.

Letter from Marge Galvin regarding the Youth Committee having a rummage sale on church grounds. She didn't approve of this, as it has been a long standing policy that fund raisers for church purposes would not involve the community. Council minutes were reviewed to see if this had been approved. Discussion followed. Sherry will answer Marge's concern by letter.

AT THIS POINT, COUNCIL MEMBERS SEEMED TO HAVE OTHER COMMITMENTS, AND THERE WAS NO LONGER A QUORUM.

Old Business

A report was given on the Child and youth Worker Policy Committee. Implementation is planned for the start of Sunday School.

The Youth and Family Ministry Development Task Force has been meeting and has completed a mission statement.

The Parish Nursing Ministry took a health survey. Question as to whether or not to rethink the name "Nursing".

Sunday School and Nursery Space Task Force is not as yet established.

The group on Congregational Beliefs, Values and Vision Statements is continuing to meet, and will be putting items in the newsletter.

New Business

Lutheran Identification Project - new group. Jack Forsberg will be invited to a Council Meeting to introduce us to this group.

The date for the July Council Meeting will be the 12th, due to the holiday weekend. We have been invited to Sherry Wellman's house. 7:00 PM.

The annual church calendar was reviewed.

Added note - both Worship Committee and Management Committee are already beginning to plan Pastor's upcoming Sabbatical

The meeting ended at 9:30 PM. Outreach closed with a special prayer.
