IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING Minutes July 12, 1999
-------------------- The meeting was brought to order at 7:40 pm by Council President Sherry Wellman, at Sherry Wellman's home. Youth Committee opened with devotions. Secretary's Report - see written report of June 7, 1999 MOTION MADE BY CARL MALKEWITZ TO ACCEPT THE SECRETARY'S REPORT FOR JUNE 7, 1999 AS WRITTEN. Seconded by Den Graeber. MOTION CARRIED. Treasurer's Report - see final report for May, 1999 and preliminary report for June The report for May was reviewed and discussed. MOTION MADE BY JEAN FOLK TO ACCEPT THE TREASURER'S FINAL REPORT FOR MAY, 1999. Seconded by Lyn Danes. MOTION CARRIED. June preliminary report was reviewed and discussed. MOTION MADE BY CARL MALKEWITZ TO ACCEPT THE TREASURER'S PRELIMINARY REPORT FOR JUNE, 1999. Seconded by Jean Folk. MOTION CARRIED. REPORTS Stewardship - no written report. In the Growing The Gift program, 30 gifts out of 49 have been received back. Those gifts will go to the existing building loans. A golf outing and pot luck is being planned for August 21st. A Commitment Sunday along with Time and Talent is being planned for fall. A letter was sent to members to remind them to send in their offerings if they were not able to make the services. A summer schedule of services was included. No Council Action required. Worship Committee - no written report. Worship did not meet in July. Nothing to report. Mention made of the Sunday schedule for summer. August 22nd will be the joint service with the Congregational Church. No Council Action required. Youth Committee - see written report of June 23, 1999 Kendall reviewed their new officers. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required. Memorial Committee - no written report The cross from above the altar will be made into a processional cross. Management Committee - see written report of June 16, 1999 MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO MOVE THE EXCESS MONEY IN THE WEDDING FUND TO THE SPECIAL MAINTENANCE FUND TO BE USED FOR UNEXPECTED OR LARGE MAINTENANCE ITEMS FOR THE CHURCH. Seconded by Chris Frysinger. Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED. MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO MOVE THE EXCESS FUNDS FROM GREEN HYMNALS, HEARING SYSTEM, LENT, AND MEN'S BIBLE STUDY TO THE GENERAL FUND, THUS ELIMINATING THOSE LINE ITEMS. Seconded by Lyn Danes. Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED. Remainder of report as written. Outreach Committee - see written report of June 9, 1999 Coffee hour was discussed. Suggestion to have it before the one service next summer, instead of after. Karen Eichelberger, Parish Nurse and guest, presented a request to apply for a grant from Wheatridge Ministries. They will give up to $2000 if the church matches the same. MOTION MADE BY CARL MALKEWITZ GIVING COUNCIL SUPPORT FOR OUTREACH TO PROCEED IN PURSUING A GRANT FOR THE PARISH NURSING PROGRAM. Seconded by Jan Martinich. MOTION CARRIED. Remainder of report as written. Parish Education Committee - see written report of June 22, 1999 Discussion regarding the LORMM Day Camp - Parish Ed doesn't feel they should be responsible for organizing, etc. Question as to what to do next year. Discussion followed. Suggestion to ask for money back and look for a new coordinator. Remainder of report as written. No Council Action required. Property Committee - no written report. No meeting in July. No Council Action required. Women of the E.L.C.A. - no written report They will be co-sponsoring Rally Day. Will have a Thankoffering Sunday in November. Pastor's Report - see written report of June, 1999 Judy LaFay's and Dave Rinckey's mom, Chris, has been in and out of the hospital for the last five weeks. Isn't doing too well. Jeanne Harju has been in the hospital. Ron Hazen is perking up. Larry Kruth's dad passed away last week. Kris Hernden has finished her treatments, as has Ann Crawford. Pastor passed out an Initial Sabbatical Preparation Document and explained it. Discussion followed. -------------------- Correspondence LSSM would like to come to a Council Meeting to explain just what they do. Sherry may ask them for August. Old Business A report was given on the Child and Youth Worker Policy Committee. MOTION MADE BY DEB STOPPER TO ADD GEORGE AYOUB TO THIS COMMITTEE FOR THE REMAINDER OF 1999. Seconded by Carl Malkewitz. MOTION CARRIED. The Youth and Family Ministry Development Task Force - met with Pastor Peggy Rose regarding different things to look for. They are planning a retreat. Sherry will send Thank You to the Y2K group for their work and presentation. New Business 1999 Council Goal - "Congregational Beliefs Statement". A sheet was passed out that showed a visual of what Immanuel Lutheran Church teaches and believes. Among other things (teaching and outreach tool, value statement), this will be used on the web page. MOTION MADE BY JEAN FOLK TO GIVE AN INTERIM APPROVAL OF THE VISUAL PRESENTED FOR IMMANUEL'S CONGREGATIONAL BELIEFS STATEMENT. Seconded by Holly Plunkett. MOTION CARRIED. Lutheran Identification Project - Guest Jack Forsberg gave a report on the ELCA Lutheran Identification Project, which has the goal of getting more awareness and reaching those not churched. The project is a multi-level, multi-media campaign designed to raise public awareness for Lutheranism, increase membership in Lutheran congregations and provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to those who are currently ELCA members, targeting baby boomers (1945-1964) and generation Xers (1965-1980). MOTION MADE BY HOLLY PLUNKETT TO HAVE THE LUTHERAN IDENTIFICATION PROJECT COMMITTEE GO FORTH WITH THE PROJECT AND RETRIEVE DONATIONS TO MEET IMMANUEL'S COMMITMENT OF $1000. Seconded by Margo Holland. MOTION CARRIED. Note made by Pastor Rick asking that we have plans in place to carry out this project once we get the people to our church. -------------------- The date for the August Council Meeting will be the 2nd, at 7:30 pm. The annual church calendar was reviewed. Note that September 24th is a conference on building your church through visionary leadership. Council suggests that Denise Lund be given the day off to attend. The meeting ended at 9:50 pm. The video of the ads from the Lutheran Identity Project were viewed. Respectfully submitted,
