IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING Minutes August 2, 1999
-------------------- The meeting was brought to order at 7:35 pm by Council President Sherry Wellman. Worship Committee opened with devotions. Sherry introduced Mr. Donald Behrens, Development Director, Lutheran Social Services of MI, who presented an overview of what LSSM is all about and the different programs which they have. Brochures were also passed out. (A copy of the LSSM Directory of Services is available to view in the church office.) There will be a reception of LSSM on October 17th at the Synod Office. Invitations will be sent. Secretary's Report - see written report of July 12, 1999 Correction - Stewardship is having a GOLF outing, not a GULF outing. MOTION MADE BY LYN DANES TO ACCEPT THE SECRETARY'S REPORT FOR JULY 12, 1999 AS CORRECTED. Seconded by Jan Martinich. MOTION CARRIED. Treasurer's Report - see final report for June, 1999 Request by Management and the Treasurer to not approve Preliminary reports, only final. MOTION MADE BY JEAN FOLK TO ACCEPT THE TREASURER'S FINAL REPORT FOR JUNE, 1999. Seconded by Den Graeber. MOTION CARRIED. REPORTS Worship Committee - no written report. No meeting in July. No Council Action required. Youth Committee - no written report No meeting in July. No Council Action required. Management Committee - see written report of July 21, 1999 MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO HAVE LORMM DAY CAMP HOUSED BY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE FOR ONE YEAR, AND THE $300 DEPOSIT LEFT AT LORMM TO SECURE OUR PLACE FOR 2000. Seconded by Nikkol Allen. Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED. MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO APPROVE AN ADDITIONAL $125 BE TAKEN OUT OF THE SEMINARY LINE ITEM FOR KAREN EICHELBERGER'S TUITION FOR HER CERTIFICATION COURSE FOR PARISH NURSING. Seconded by Jean Folk. Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED. Management to look at renaming Seminary fund to something like Seminary/Professional Leadership fund, or ??? Discussion on the alley way - several solutions were presented. Management has suggested we consult an attorney for advice. Outreach Committee - no written report No meeting in July. No Council Action required. Parish Education Committee - no written report MOTION MADE BY LYN DANES TO APPROVE DENISE LUND AS A MEMBER OF PARISH EDUCATION COMMITTEE FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2000. Seconded by Larry Kruth. MOTION CARRIED. Property Committee - see written report of July 17, 1999 Russ reviewed their report. We again lost our custodian. Tony and Margo will pick up slack until a new person is found. Question as to when the parking lot would be resurfaced. Russ will take back to committee to see if they are looking at three or four years. Stewardship Committee - see written report of April (July) 14, 1999 Spiritual Giving/Commitment Sunday will be informal this year. The program will be presented through "cottage meetings" or very short Bible study. Report was reviewed in detail. There are special funds that aren't listed in the budget line items. Stewardship will be following up on this. Bulletin reminders regarding the budget will now reflect monthly totals. No Council Action required. Women of the E.L.C.A. - no written report No meetings lately. Pastor's Report - see written report of July, 1999 Pat Graeber was in the hospital and had surgery. Mary Berner had surgery. Pat Anderson was at the hospital twice. Chris Rinckey - continue to keep in prayers. Frank LaFay's mother passed away. Add James Kruth to prayers . Pastor was on vacation part of the month (had nice time). -------------------- Correspondence Boy Scout Troop would like to use parking lot for car wash next year. Letter to go to them saying three month maximum to reserve. Old Business The "CYVA Worker Policy" was reviewed and discussed. MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO ACCEPT THE CYVA WORKER POLICY WITH CHANGES AND CORRECTIONS, TO BE IMPLEMENTED AND IN EFFECT AS OF AUGUST 3, 1999. Seconded by Jean Folk, Discussion followed. MOTION CARRIED. MOTION MADE BY LARRY KRUTH TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE CHILD AND YOUTH WORKER POLICY COMMITTEE TO CYVA WORKER COMMITTEE, CYVA STANDING FOR CHILD YOUTH AND VULNERABLE ADULT. Seconded by Lyn Danes. MOTION CARRIED. New Business There was no new business. -------------------- The date for the September Council Meeting will be the 12th at 7:30 pm. The annual church calendar was reviewed. Prepared budgets from each committee need to be to Management Committee by the 26th of September. Question regarding the Parish Health Ministry Program's budget and where it should be - it will be added to Outreach. The meeting ended at 9:55 pm and Worship closed with devotions.
