COUNCIL MEETING

October 21, 2007

A special meeting of the Church Council was called to consider two issues:  1) Approval of a bake sale fundraiser for Baskets of Hope; and, 2) Finalizing the congregation’s budget for 2008.

Jim opened with prayer and called the special meeting to order at  11:54 a.m. 

Dennis Graeber explained that Serving Team wanted to raise money to support Immanuel’s annual Baskets of Hope campaign this Christmas season.  Ruth Buckley will be coordinating the event which will be held in Fellowship Hall on November 18, 2007.

TO AUTHORIZE SERVING TEAM TO HOLD A BAKE SALE FUNDRAISER ON NOVEMBER 18, 2007 IN FELLOWSHIP HALL WITH PROCEEDS GOING TO IMMANUEL’S BASKETS OF HOPE CAMPAIGN

UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED.

Larry Kruth presented the final 2008 budget proposed by Support Team.  Larry explained the changes and reasoning for changes to line items for Mortgage Payment (SP-38), Parish Nurse (SP-20), and Future Staff Position (SP-51).  Larry noted that existing staff positions have been provided a 3% cost of living increase in the current budget but that the total operating expenses have increased only 1% since last year’s budget.  Larry pointed out that the Consumer Price Index has increased approximately 3.7% in the past year.

MOTION by: Tom Mattson SECONDED by: Gregg Vicary

TO APPROVE, FOR PRESENTATION TO THE CONGREGATION AT THE ANNUAL MEETING IN NOVEMBER, THE FINAL 2008 BUDGET PROPOSED BY SUPPORT TEAM INCLUDING 3% INCREASES IN STAFF SALARIES AND A 1% INCREASE IN OPERATING EXPENSES.

APPROVED WITH ONE ABSTENTION.

Council heard one means of implementing the new Future Staff Position discussed by the Support Team.  Further discussion and input from the congregation on this new position will be solicited at the congregational meeting in November.
