Mike called the meeting to order @ 7:10 p.m.  Teresa provided opening devotions.

 

Preparing

Review of Previous Council Minutes: 

 

MOTION by Marlaine Teahan , SECONDED by  Teresa Barcy

TO APPROVE the September 11, 2006 council minutes as revised.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

MOTION by Teresa Barcy , SECONDED by  Marlaine Teahan

TO APPROVE the October 9, 2006 council minutes.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

Treasurer's Report:

 

MOTION by Marlaine Teahan, SECONDED by Teresa Barcy

TO APPROVE the October 2006 Treasurer’s Report    

Discussion:

Mortgage Reduction line item should be applied to the Mortgage on a monthly basis. Mike to speak to Pat to insure that this happens.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

MOTION by Elizabeth Ayoub, SECONDED by Marlaine Teahan to send communication to Management to encourage the committees to reduce their spending activities for the remainder of 2006 and into 2007 until further advised by either Council or Management Committee.

Committee Reports:

Health Ministries: Written report, no Council action required.

Management: No Written report, no Council action required.

Outreach:  Written Report, No Council action required.

Parish Education: No written report, No Council action required.

Property: No written Report, no Council action required.   Wanted to thank the youth for their help in cleaning up around the church grounds.  The contract for the roof has been signed and it is anticipated that the repair work on the roof project may be completed by the end of November.

Stewardship: Written report, no Council action required.  Management will review Jim Teahan’s letter to council on 4th Quarter receipts to date.

Worship: No written report, no Council action required.

Youth: No written report, no Council action required.

Memorial & Special Gifts: No written report, no Council action required.

Pastor Rick’s Report: Written report (October/November), Council action required. New member class with the following people joining congregation:  Jim Krenek, Raymond Harris, Walter Werner, David and Sheryl Kurtycz

 

MOTION by Marlaine Teahan, SECONDED by Elizabeth Ayoub to accept these people as new members through affirmation of faith.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

MOTION by Elizabeth Ayoub, SECONDED by Marlaine Teahan to include a summary report of council minutes in the form of a president’s letter in The Manger each month.

Discussion:

Encourage the President to include some sort of summary or report based on the council minutes as previously written in the Bridgebuilders report.

Serving

Correspondence:

 

MOTION by Teresa Barcy, SECONDED by  Marlaine Teahan

To destroy the ballots from the November 5, 2006 Congregational Meeting.

MOTION by Teresa Barcy, SECONDED by  Elizabeth Ayoub

To allow the Synod to hold a day-long workshop at Immanuel on December 3, 2006 from 10 – 4 pm, for a Lay Missionary Training Program.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

SNL will be putting on an event to benefit the Grand Ledge Food Bank.  Near the end of January.

To allow use of the facility for the SNL and community groups to put on a “Soup Bowl Supper” to benefit the Grand Ledge Food Bank.

MOTION by Elizabeth Ayoub, SECONDED by  Teresa Barcy

To enlarge the definition of opening devotions at Council meetings to include sharing by all members of council as to how and what God has been doing in their lives as well as praying together.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

Mike made a presentation and handed out literature on a MiCAFE program. Immanuel has been asked if we could provide office space for a program that is for low income seniors and provides food assistance to them. We would need to provide a space for approximately 5-6 hours a month. Doug Scoggins provided info and Mike asked council members to review and discuss over the next month so we could vote on the program at next month’s Council meeting. Mike will contact Doug with questions that arise.

Designation of Advent Offerings to GLEAP.

 

MOTION by Marlaine Teahan, SECONDED by Elizabeth Ayoub

To designate Advent Offerings to GLEAP.

Motion Carries, Unanimously Approved.

 

Monthly planning calendar:

November 2006 – Annual Meeting (Pres) , Destroy ballots from meeting, Community thanksgiving service (pastor & worship), Designate Advent Offerings (stewardship), Invite new council member to Dec Meeting, Announce “Hanging of the Greens” (worship)

December 2006 – Publicize Christmas Services, Hanging of the Greens, Council Retreat Planning, Committee prepare Annual reports.  Forward Planning Task Force report.

 

Next  Monthly Council Meeting: December 11, 2006 at 7 pm.
